You’re given a choice of the five engines above and only those five engines above to swap in some insane project car. No LS’s or LT’s or RB26’s or doritos, because we’re doing this differently.
Your choices, from top: Ferrari Tipo 051 V10 (powered the F2002), Ford-Cosworth DFV V8 (powered almost everyone from 1968 to 1982), Honda RA168-E Turbo V6 (powered Senna and Prost’s MP4/4), BMW M12 Turbo I4 (powered the Brabham BT52), and Renault RS27-10 V8 (powered Vettel and the Red Bull RB6).
Alright, men and women! Vote on which engine will you have!

I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

I chose to put those engines up, not because they’re easy and plentiful, but because they’re hard and a PITA to work on.

If a maintenance kir for a truck load of spares wouldn’t be given with engine I would go with the BMW engine. It’s based on a production car engine and it doesn’t contain many exotic parts.

I was just being tongue in cheek :). Also, I’m not really familiar with any of those engines. If I can’t have an LS then give me a good straight-6. You presented neither, so I just made a joke.

Yes.

Kinja ate it on the edit, but yes, there’s spares by the truckload and a crack team of mechanics that come with your choice. Said mechanics are from the marque from which the engine is badged with.

Is none an option? Because all of those engines are garbage if you don’t own a multi million dollar F1 team.
And besides for a road going car, if I had to swap in a true purpose built race motor, I'd take a Childress NASCAR V8.
In the real world, I’ll take an LSx or a Ford 427 SOHC

Well here they are as they work hard in racing, in order they appear.
![]() 10/12/2015 at 06:08 |

I reject them all. No V12.

Given the inexplicable and unforgivable absence of a Ferrari Tipo 044, and the fact that you’re apparently giving me a pile of spares and a team of mechanics, I’m going to have to go for the BMW. Because the old-school-turbo “waaaaiiit...for...iiiitttt..SLAM!” is enough fun with 300hp that I need to know what it’d be like with 1400.
And once I run through that truckload of spares, which won’t take long at 3 minutes run time per rebuild in qualifying tune, I’ll take the DFV, because even craziness needs to be a little practical, and that’s the most practical option there. Plus TRUMPETS!
![]() 10/12/2015 at 07:18 |

The Tipo 044 is for another set, sorry.
But I’m with you on the DFV. Another perk is that it’s the only multi-purpose ultra high-performance plant in the choices, relatively cheap, and can fit most chassis.

This sounds like one of those things that seems more awesome in your head than it would in reality.

Gimme that V10 stuffed in an F430 Scuderia.

Some of y’all are takin’ this a wee bit too seriously :)
Gimmie that Ford Cossie, because velocity stacks! I’ll put it something wildly inappropriate, like a g-body El Camino or something, because I am a world class idiot.

Ferrari, just for the sound...
![]() 10/12/2015 at 08:02 |

~420-450hp out of an n/a 3.0 should be enough to have fun with.

Then boy you’re in luck.
![]() 10/12/2015 at 08:17 |

Ok. Then I would pick the Ferrari V10.
![]() 10/12/2015 at 08:36 |

Does this work then ? It’s a Mercedes M275 twin turbo V12.

Ford Cossie #becausevelocitystacks

Hmmm decisions decisions....
well anything not a V8 is out so that leaves 2 choices, no way id have a Renault motor so only one choice left....and its the wrong answer still so...the obvious choice is...
Chevy W motor.

Cosworth in a rwd converted Cadillac Allanté, that's been gutted, caged and race prepped.

No SR20?

Boss 429 for Murica
Hayabusa V8 for extreme
Twin Turbo V6 Duratec if I wanted to be different

the engine that makes you immediately more attracted to your sister (according to clarkson)

I'd put that Cossie in my 5er wagon all day. Screaming wagon goodness.

I’ll borrow your idea: Cosworth DFV in a Ferrari 330 P3 or P4 replica!
